Teneur en un polluant, égale tout au plus à la teneur maximale admissible fixée par une norme de qualité de l'environnement, correspondant à un danger réel. Des dispositions immédiates doivent être prises pour abaisser les émissions lorsque cette teneur est atteinte.

OBS

La teneur maximale admissible de l'air atmosphérique en un polluant s'exprime souvent sous forme de trois niveaux, correspondants à trois degrés de gravité de danger. Ces niveaux sont nommés différemment d'un auteur à l'autre. On trouve, par ex., les séries ternaires : avertissement, alerte, alarme; nocif, dangereux, alerte; défavorable, sérieux, urgence.
